Nothing is more upsetting to a mom than seeing her baby in pain or suffering from some type of rash, but it is even more troubling to have no knowledge of how to relieve your baby of these rashes. These rashes can stem from diapers, and they can stick around for a while, leaving your baby unable to sleep and crying the whole night because he or she is unable to sleep. Some rashes can be extremely itchy or painful. Good thing there are plenty of effective diaper rash remedies available, and plenty of them do not contain hazardous chemicals that sometimes just makes the problem worse. Below are some good tips and remedies.
1. Choose unscented, natural, hypoallergenic or chlorine-free disposable diapers. These may cost a little more than scented disposable diapers, and yet your baby does not run the risk of developing rashes from the diapers. Ones to consider are Nature Babycare Eco-Friendly Chlorine-Free diapers, Pampers Swaddlers Newborn and Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive disposable diapers, and Nurtured By Nature diapers.
2. Immediately change your baby’s diapers when needed. Urine and feces can worsen any existing rashes. Consider disposable diapers with indicators, so you know when it is time to change your baby’s diapers.
3. Use only natural soap and lukewarm water to wash your baby. After washing, allow your baby to air out before sealing the disposable diapers. This is ideal, because moisture is among the leading causes of rashes. If you decide to use wipes to clean your baby, it would be best to go with unscented baby wipes like Comfort Shield Wipes, or organic cotton towels if your baby has existing rashes. Likewise, some cleaners like Dermatite’s Perigiene and Hazel Fresh by Avianne have proven to be effective in getting rid of rashes. These work by neutralizing ammonia that is both in waste and urine.
4. Try to combine some cornstarch and Vaseline, and apply this onto your baby’s rashes. Vaseline is a substance that effectively blocks moisture. Do this for a couple of days and you will be sure to see some results.
5. Some ointments like Desitin, Balmex and Periguard Barrier Cream have also proven to help in preventing the development of rashes. These serve as a barrier that prevents moisture from irritating the skin. At the same time, these rash ointments and creams have vitamins that are good for the skin.
Just to be on the safe side, consult with your baby’s pediatrician before trying the abovementioned and other remedies for your baby, such as baby constipation remedies. Also remember to use baby-safe detergent when you wash your baby’s clothing. This way, you will be able to rest assured that your baby is rash-free, comfortable and sleeping soundly at night.
